Facilities Maintenance Technician | Museum
Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the Facilities Manager in the daily and long-term care of museum buildings, exhibits, and grounds.
This role performs routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance to ensure a safe, functional, and high-quality environment for visitors, staff, and collections.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine and preventive maintenance for all museum buildings, large scale exhibitions, and mechanical systems (owned or leased).
- Perform basic troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments on HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and communication systems.
- Maintain the workshop, tools, and facility equipment in good working order.
- Ensure all facilities and exhibit projects meet high quality standards and are completed safely, protecting both staff and museum assets.
- Assist in constructing exhibit displays, casework, and related exhibit components.
- Serve as an after-hours and weekend contact for facility emergencies; must remain reachable by phone.
- Set up and prepare classrooms and other museum spaces as needed.
Experience Requirements
Working knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and general mechanical components.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings and specifications.
- Basic carpentry skills and experience performing general construction tasks.
- Comfortable and experienced working at heights (ladders, platforms, scaffolding) and using appropriate fall-protection equipment.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
